Authentication

A careful review before a watch is listed

Prestige Watches & Jewelry reviews pre-owned and vintage watches through the eyes of a working watchmaker, not a generic resale marketplace. Authenticity, condition, service history, and future repair risk all matter before a watch is represented to a buyer.

Who reviews the watch

George is the in-house Certified Master Watchmaker at Prestige Watches & Jewelry. He holds three Swatch Group certificates from formal watchmaking training in New Jersey, and his accreditation process included work submitted to Switzerland for quality review and approval.

That background changes how a pre-owned watch is evaluated. A watch can look clean in photos and still raise questions once the movement, bracelet, case, moisture history, or service condition is reviewed. Prestige Watches & Jewelry slows that process down before making claims.

Reviewed before representation

Pre-owned pieces should be presented with condition context, service-minded questions, and a real shop behind the sale.

Our authentication routine

Authentication is not a single glance at a logo, dial, or reference number. The team reviews the watch as a complete object: case, dial, hands, movement, reference details, serials, bracelet, clasp, papers when available, timing, parts originality, water damage, polish quality, service history, and how all of those details fit together.

Some watches are straightforward. Others require more research, especially vintage pieces, watches with replacement parts, watches with incomplete service history, or models that are often copied. When details need nuance, Prestige Watches & Jewelry cross-checks reference images, known model information, and respected watch resources instead of forcing a quick answer.

External details

Case shape, dial printing, hands, markers, crystal, bezel, bracelet, clasp, strap fit, wear pattern, finishing, and how the watch appears to have been polished.

Internal details

Movement type, reference fit, function, timing, service condition, water damage, replaced parts, and whether the internal story matches the outside of the watch.

Context and research

Reference numbers, serials, papers when available, service history, known variations, reference photos, forums, and other model-specific sources are used to cross-check the watch.

What we will and will not claim

Prestige Watches & Jewelry represents what it can reasonably verify. If a watch has service parts, unclear history, heavy polishing, mismatched bracelet details, missing papers, water damage, or a question that requires more research, the team explains the uncertainty instead of treating every watch as a simple yes or no.

For pre-owned and vintage watches, a credible answer often includes both authenticity and condition. A watch may be genuine but worn, genuine with service parts, genuine with a later bracelet, or not a safe purchase at the price being asked. Those distinctions matter to the person who will own and service the watch later.

Questions worth asking before buying

  • Is the dial original to the watch, or is it a later service dial?
  • Does the bracelet, clasp, or strap match the reference and period?
  • Has the case been polished heavily, and how does that affect condition?
  • Are service parts, replacement hands, movement work, or water damage disclosed?
  • Does the timing and movement condition support the asking price?
  • What warranty or shop support applies after purchase?

What customers often mention

Prestige Watches & Jewelry customers often mention clear communication, careful repair guidance, and trustworthy service. That same approach guides how the team represents pre-owned watches: explain what is known, disclose what needs context, and stay reachable after the sale.
